About Me:
I'm a pastor student at the University of Theology in Stockholm. I'm married and have two small boys. Now I'm helping with the youth-groups in our congregation from now and then between studding and family.

No, I haven't been to Sverije. A couple of them moved here after the Swedish company bought the one I work for. The we had visits here by others and I instant message and email them often enough. So my impressions are derived from them and mostly one of the 2 who moved here. She was in the office next to me for about 4 years.

The image I get is that most of the holiday's in Sw. are based on Christian traditions and that almost everyone is a member of the Swedish Lutheran church, but that almost nobody really attends those churches nor takes real meaning in the holidays. (Of course, I could be describing Christmas and Easter in my area, as well.) It sounds like it is uncommon and maybe improper to discuss religion openly, that marriage is not regarded as very necessary. Again, much like we're becoming but with a head start.

On the other hand, it seems that Swedes are uncommonly friendly and welcoming. They are typically humble, not wanting to toot their own horn for fear that someone would think of them as conceited.

As far as spreading the gospel...I think ones hometown is the hardest place of all, regardless of whether that's Falkenberg or Dallas. We get comfortable and routine and people usually know what we believe so the subject rarely comes up unless there's a crisis. I have some pictures on the wall of my office that make it clear what I believe and my officemates know that my guitar practice at lunch is for church. So unless we start talking about my marriage, or kids, or the election here, serious subjects like faith are harder to bring up.

I've been on 3 short term mission trips to other countries. It is SO much easier to shair my faith when I'm in a place for no other reason. There's nothing like traveling a few thousand miles with a group with the expressed purpose of evengelism to focus ones conversation. Plus the instant gratification of seeing people who are so open and ready accept their Savior will leave you wishing you could do it full time.

I work for a Swedish company and deal with several of my counterparts in Malmö fairly often. I've never met any other Swedish Christians except for Blindside (a meet & greet after a show.) I have this impression that Christians are few and far between there, but I'm also told Sweden has it's own "Bible Belt". I'm really curious to know what your experiences are like, what your church is like, etc. Do you find that Christians there are as rare as they seem? (Note: This shouldn't be taken as a superior attitude. Sometimes we seem rare to me here and I'm right in our Bible Belt.)
