Worship in Spirit and Truth - part 2

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24)

I was doing some more reading this morning on the…

Worship in Spirit and Truth

This has been an important topic for me lately - this is 1 of 2 postings on the subject and some insights I have had into what it really means to worship in spirit and truth..... comments are welcomed.....
John 4:23-24 "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."

Top Kill

"Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God's Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete." (2…

Sometimes all ya gotta do is slide up...

Hey this is Rev. Matt again. Okay all, at one time earlier we have struggled to figure out that one chord and then later on end up kicking ourselves in the butt when we realize...that's all it is! A prime example of this (which was also the same way I found out about this) was when I just happened to figure out to play a B-suspended chord and then slide down toward the headstock on the fretboard. Well anyway not only can i apply that to Open the Eyes of My Heart, I can also…

The Fallback Worship Song

If you ever study Old Testament worship, you will discover that the most popular worship song there is "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." You will find that it appears at key points in Israel's history. For example;

1. When David brings the Ark into Jerusalem (1 Chr 16:34) and institutes a ministry of constant prayer and praise unto the LORD;

2. At the dedication of the Temple Solomon built unto the… Continue

"The Very Best of Hillsong Live... Again"

Reviewing a compilation album can render both reader and writer towards fatigue, so I will use this opportunity to present an idea to the mega

church down under.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for

Hillsong. I know a lot of mega churches try to find their own musical

niche, (Mars Hills Church comes to mind), but the reality is,…

New song written with Kurtis Parks: Grace So Amazing

I've posted a new song which Kurtis Park recently did demo recording of.

I'd had the song sitting around for a while and Kurt help me finish it up, writing a new section to the chorus, coming up with the totally cool piano riff that shows up throughout the song, and fixing some rough spots in my writing.

Kurt's performance of the song really brings it to life! He did this recording at home, doing all the instrument parts and vocals himself. If you enjoy this song, be…

The Prayer of a Righteous Man

"You're familiar with the old written law, 'Love your friend,' and its unwritten companion, 'Hate your enemy.' I'm challenging that. I'm telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the…

Music for the Dance by Max Lucado

Let's imagine that you want to learn to dance. Being the rational,

cerebral person you are, you go to a bookstore and buy a book on

You take the book home and get to work. You do everything it says. The book says sway; you sway. The book says shuffle; you shuffle. The book says spin; you spin.

Finally, you think you’ve got it, and you invite your wife to come in and watch. You hold the book open and…

It's tough to be a Worshiper

I’m part of the music ministry in our local church for almost 3 years now and I've already had my ups and down on being part of the said ministry. I started as a naive trainee, then passed the assessment stage, started as a back-up singer, slowly doing solos, became a worship leader in the youth service and kids church, I’ve also… Continue

Coffee anyone?

Coffee nowadays had evolved in many varieties’ such as latte, cappuccino, french vanilla, caramel, mint, and white mocha (personal favorite). Surprisingly, it also turned-out as one of the most enjoyed drink of the Filipinos today, from Class A to Class D, whether it is instant or gourmet, coffee should definitely be on the menu.… Continue

This past weekend Celebrate Recovery and Victory Sunday morning

Hi everyone, I'm Rev. Matt from Johnstown. I was blessed to have had the priviledge-actually to have been asked to lead worship-for Celebrate Recovery on Friday. I had originally chosen a song list from writers from the UK-England but then I had to reconsider the fact that if anyone knew any of these songs...I'd be very lucky! Otherwise the songs would be irrelevant even as relevant songs. Rule of thumb: introduce one at a…

Church of a Thousand

We park our blue Reliant K under the guidance of a blue-uniformed attendant who makes sure we are square in the middle of our smallish space. Pausing to let the engine diesel to a halt, he hands me a stub informing us we are in Orange Area 3-C. It’s Sunday morning, and we’re “ just visiting” a church of a thousand, Extended…

Without Love

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. -1 Corinthians 13:1 (NIV)

I’ve been thinking about this verse as it relates to worship music, both as a music leader and a congregation member. What it boils down to for me, in a musical context, is this:

Whatever I do, no matter how beautiful or excellent, if I do it without love I’m… Continue

worship in the face of criticism

John 10: 10. The thief cometh not, but for

to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have

life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

There are three things the enemy would want to steal from you.
  • The Word (parable of the sower)
  • Your Witness
  • Your worship.

Looking for a church

My wife and I recently moved to the Triad Area in NC. We have been looking for a church for 3 years. We are looking for a sprit filled chuch (that takes care of the music issues), 500+, and the pastor actually has something to say. No track meet please. We are currently attending Westover and love the pastor, but the "Frozen Chosen" is not for us. We are from Grand Rapids, MI and were members of Rez Life so I confess the bench mark is very high.

The Most Powerful Woman in But Not of the World

"Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

'Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.' (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)"…
