Part 1 - Theism 'vs' Naturalism - A Question of Origin and Design

Really, there are very few systems of thought out there... but lots of variations on them. And it seems we cannot move past the question of origin in forming the basis of how we look at life. The prevailing intellectual thought in our day is that there is no God and that our origin is a chance happening - we might call this naturalism. It involves explanations like evolution to explain our origin but the basic premise is that all can be explained by science or empirical evidence.

So… Continue

How About a Little Excursion into some Philosophy?

I invite you to explore a little with me - it's not directly related to worship but I've found that theology and philosophy and worship seem to be vitally connected.

If anyone thinks people of faith aren't thinking people, they ought to try reading someone like Alvin Plantinga. I enjoy the challenge of trying to understand his philosophical arguments.

One thing is for sure: Understanding the different philosophies are important because they are what shapes whole… Continue

My Favorite Hymn Verse

There are many hymns and modern worship songs with texts that I love. However, my favorite single verse from any song comes from the original text of the hymn “Crown Him With Many Crowns.” This is a hymn that has been changed continually since it was first written in 1851 by Matthew Bridges. The versions in common use today are a mishmash of verses by Bridges and by Godfrey Thring, who did not approve of Bridges original text, and so replaced some of Bridges verses with ones of his own for a… Continue

Mission Trip Recap, Part II

In the first part of this blog post, I described a bit about our mission trip to the Chehalis, WA area. In this post I'd like to share about the people we assisted.

S.J. is a recently retired lady who has been active in missions herself, having gone to Africa on a multi-week mission trip not long before the flooding. She said that one of the hardest things after the flood was… Continue

Word Like Fire Episode 18: New Day

Download/stream the podcast here- Episode 18: New Day

This week’s song functions as a confession and a celebration of God’s daily forgiveness.

New Day

Today I turned and left the narrow path

Losing sight as darkness fell, I knew that I was trapped

And so I cry, my voice ashamed and weak

Even in the wilderness, I can hear you…

Anjan Ghale

If we want to lift up our God on high. we must commit our lives first in Him. Because God want's real praise from us which comes from our heart, not from mouth.

Jesus Is the Difference

"His master said to him, Well done, you upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful servant! You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) which your master enjoys." (Matthew 25:14-30, Amplified Bible)

Yesterday I saw a sticker on a car that read "Obedient women are…

Making a Praise Team more than a House Band

There are several ways churches build their Praise and Worship teams. Some go and look for talented musicians with offers of money and other perks. That church’s desire is to have the best musicians, best singers, best sound, and best show. The purpose of this is to use the band/singers to draw people to this church. It is so sad because there are times that it doesn’t matter whether the musicians are saved or not. Maybe they will get saved later, but it is more important how talented they are.… Continue

Sanctify the Altar!

That same day Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons, took their censers, put hot coals and incense in them, and offered "strange" fire to GOD—something GOD had not commanded. Fire blazed out from GOD and consumed them—they died in GOD's presence. Moses said to Aaron, “This is what GOD meant when he said, To the one who comes near me, I will show myself holy; Before all the people, I will show my glory.” And don't leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting lest you die, because GOD's anointing oil is on… Continue

The Call

"The LORD had said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'

So Abram left, as the LORD had told him." (Genesis 12:1-4, NIV)

The Secret to David’s Promotion

I recently read a fantastic book by Bill Johnson called "Strengthen Yourself in the Lord". As I often do, I enjoyed the book so much that I raced through it only to realise I couldn't remember many of the lessons I thought i'd learnt along the way!

I'm therefore re-reading the book and summarising the key points from each chapter. I thought this would make for an interesting blog so hopefully some of you will find my notes helpful too.

I'll post my notes from each chapter… Continue

birds of prey

Some of you may know that I have been in a 2 yr dry spell from writing any songs. I haven't written anything since before my brain popped and I needed surgery to stop the bleeding.

I have had many people tell me that I would write many songs from this experience etc... and nothing has come out of me at all. I even lost my voice for a period of time, due to nodules on my vocal chords from the surgery. So that's where I've been.

Recently I have recieved prayer from a couple of different… Continue
