Give the youth more credit!

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

before you were born I set you apart;

I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

"Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."

But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

Then the LORD reached out his…

Why all this negativity?

I was thinking today about how this world is so ready to pounce on the negative. It seems like the more sensational the news is, the more we as a society eat it up. The good news is rarely mentioned. Just give us blood, guts, gore, lust, murder, and mayhem.

The same thing happens in our minds. Make a short list of all the bad events you remember happening, things that irritated you, angered you, or hurt you, or saddened you. Now make a list of all the events that brought you joy,… Continue

Are you listening? not God...YOU :)

I still have my obsession with clouds. I've grown to look forward to looking up in the sky each morning, to see what God has left me. It also gives me some "quiet" time with God. When was the last time you had some "quiet" time?

Oh, I know most of us "put time aside" to read the bible, or do our devotional...but how about putting away the bible and the devotional, and just sitting there in peace and quiet, and just...listening?

For me, there is always noise...TV, music,… Continue

BBC Radio Interview - not a plug (ok, maybe it is, but it's just a little one....)

Hi All,

If you're sat twiddling your thumbs, and fancy putting a voice to a name/photo from on here, I've got something that may help you pass 15 minutes....

Last sunday, I had the rare but cool opportunity to go on the BBC Radio Manchester Sunday Morning breakfast show.

I was being interviewed about worship leading, songwriting and my involvement in the project, and they asked me to bring my guitar too!

If you're having a coffee… Continue

Obama is the antichrist and the world is ending in 2012? OK hon, thanks for letting me know!

My daughter and I had a rather intense textersation last night (text + conversation = textersation)

It went something like this:

"Hey mom, do you believe Obama could be the antichrist? I saw stuff about it online" (ahh...the internet - THE place to go when you want to get your facts straight)

"ROFL no, that was a McCain commercial, and one in very bad taste" (really, I was surprised that McCain would actually make a commercial comparing Obama to Jesus and… Continue

Today was rent day, meaning house rent was due by today, or I would incur late charges and I didn't want to do anything to tarnish my pristine record. Anyway, I've been doing a lot of things lately to make myself a better Christian, like signing up with a website that helps people through issues and problems and provides them with a 60-day Bible study and accoutability program. I just finished getting my first order of T-shirts printed from a company here in Mobile that I will be selling along… Continue

Emphatic listening vs. sympathy

I'm listening to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and one of the habits is to seek first to understand, then to be understood. And it talks about empathic listening--not judging, not agreeing(sympathy) but feeling what they feel(empathy). And that this is powerful.

According to Covey, the first need that follows physical survival is psychological survival: You matter. Conveying to a person that they have value.

And what's more, Stephen Covey says, you can… Continue

Our relationship with the Lord

From my Oswald Chambers devo:

We must never allow anything to injure our

relationship with God; if it does get injured we must take time and

get it put right. The main thing about Christianity is not the work

we do, but the relationship we maintain and the atmosphere produced

by that relationship. That is all God asks us to look after, and it

is the one thing that is being continually assailed

I like the metaphor of our relationship with God as its… Continue

Seriously...why are you here?

That's a question that has been on my mind lately...

Sometimes I wonder why people do what they do...when they say they want to "do" something, and they feel they have a "gifting", yet they are not willing to put any effort into it...Is it really a "gifting" then? How can they feel good about this, and reap the benefits of using their gifts to build up the body?

This is how i feel -

God gave me gifts - He doesn't want me to keep them to myself, He wants me to use… Continue

Questions, questions!

I love how God loves to surprise us know, do something and then give you a poke, as if to say "AHA...see...I *am* here...PSYCH!!!" And you just have to smile and say "Ok God...I get it...for now...but please don't be surprised if you have to show me *again* some time in the near future"

I often wonder how He keeps everything organized...How does He hear us? Are our prayers just a cacophony of babble? Or can he somehow hear each and every petition cos he's...God? If… Continue
