Godly Servanthood...

Godly Servanthood...

John 13:13-16

"Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him."

When you hear the word "servant," does anybody immediately spring to mind?… Continue

I've set up a simple poll on worship music styles on my blog. Would you be willing to click on the link below to participate and help me gather some data for an upcoming article and seminar?

Feel free to comment...I used some pretty arbitrary descriptions so I know I've missed some different ways to characterize worship styles....please enlighten me if you have some other thoughts...

He's Always On Time...

*The time came for the baby to be born. Luke 2:6 NIV*

John Walker writes: "We manage, waste, spend and save time. We wish it would come. We wish it would pass. We see it fly and we feel it drag. We watch clocks and carry calendars, creating the illusion that somehow we control it. God controls time. Do you think He was surprised that 'while they were there, the time came for the baby to be born?' We're surprised by unexpected developments. God's never surprised, even by the most disastrous… Continue

I can't tell you what a blessing it has been to be a part of this community--for the short time I've been here, I've been encouraged, lifted up, and brought to a higher place because of the fellowship I've found here.

I apologize for not sending a Christmas blessing. I spent Christmas and two days before with a pretty miserable cold...but I do take this time to wish you many blessings and your deepest dreams come true in 2009. I look forward to many more moments of sweet fellowship… Continue

My Gift

I originally put this on my journal/blog, but thought that I would share it here as it seems most appropriate.

When I was in high school, I attended a Vineyard-like youth group. As part of the youth group, we had a youth band that performed for our youth group. It was led by our youth pastor who was cool, had a great voice and could really play a guitar (or so I thought at the time). I had joined the band along with another girl. Now, up till this time I had had lots of… Continue

Blue Christmas

Last night, our church had our first-ever "Blue Christmas" service. Here's an article that explains the idea:

Although I'm not playing in the worship band right now, I am still on the worship committee at church, and back in October or November I brought up the idea, and when I found out that the pastor was up for doing the service, I signed on to do the music (guy & guitar style). Our church has connections to… Continue

Nashville?? Part 2

First of all, I would like to thank you folks who thought of me and prayed for me during this process. My interview was last Monday, December 15. It went pretty well and I was very pleased with the whole experience when I left the VA hospital in Nashville. I went in there with the confidence and trust that God will always be with me and my family. I was not even nervous during the entire hour even with the presence of the unexpected panel of physicians and the department head that met with me.… Continue

The Bridge

Just to the east of California, MD highway 4 crosses the Patuxent River on its way to Solomons Island, MD. The mixture of steel and concrete that carries the traffic is named after some former governor of the state, but a lot of the local folks call it the "White Knuckle Bridge".

It is a two lane ribbon with no shoulder at all -- just a thin concrete barrier to prevent any slip on the steering wheel from plunging one into the watery abyss. It soars high enough into the heavens to…

Snowed In on SUNDAY!!!

What is happening here? The Sunday before Christmas there is 6 inches of snow on the ground and a sheet of ice. I have been going to church my whole life and I can't remember a cancelled Sunday, especially Christmas Sunday. Right now we have cancelled the first service and are thinking about canceling the second. I just can't believe it.

God Came Down

Note: This discussion reviews Old and New Testament references to the most personal atonement gift God could offer us, namely Himself. The author recognizes that Christian tradition celebrates the birth of Christ on December 25 (as Christmas), which incorporated pagan end-of-year winter celebrations, previously in existence. Based on the New Testament account in Luke 2:8, Jesus was more than likely born during warmer weather since the shepherds were still out in the fields with their… Continue

"To Conduct an Orchestra One Must Turn There Back to the Crowd"

"To conduct an orchestra one must turn there back to the crowd"

This my personal quote for 2009!

This means I am going to do what God has called me regardless what people think. Don't really need people to give me there approval all I need is God's, my family's, and my leadership above me.

This tends to frustrate people about me cause I am stubborn and strong willed. No need for getting in some ones face if they don't agree with me. (some call that being real, I… Continue

Share your Testimony...

For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. Romans 9:3

You probably have someone in your life who doesn't know Jesus Christ. Do you have a plan to share the gospel with them?

Matthew, one of Jesus' disciples, had a simple plan. He was a former tax collector who wanted some of his old friends to meet Jesus. So, he threw a party. They met Jesus and He changed their lives.

The… Continue

What do you mean, "The Pastors are snowed in!"???

We in the Seattle area, like much of the country, have been having inclement winter weather. Friday evening we got a bit of snow, but roads weren't impacted. The snow held off during the day on Saturday, and finally cut loose overnight Saturday night.

Sunday at 6:45 I called the pastors' house to see how the roads were over by the church..."doesn't look like it's sticking to the road" was the reply. are good to go for 9:00. We leave the house about 7:30 (normally we… Continue

for those who have inquired

Hi everyone!! Greetings in the name of Jesus-I hope this post finds you all preparing your hearts for the celebration of the birth of Christ. What a wonderful time of the year, a time to reflect upon and rejoice in the birth of our Savior. I have gotten many comments and questions about my ability to play bass guitar though I am deaf. To answer the question of how this is possible and whether I am truly considered "deaf" I can tell you this....without my hearing aides I hear very little. If a… Continue
