Stretching Your Faith (Living Dangerous) Pt. 2

Part 2

Jesus feeding the 5000 (Matt 14:19

Peter walking on the water (Matt 14:29)

It's interesting that Jesus would say

Lk 18:8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

Faith rests on God's power and not human wisdom!

1Co 2:4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 1Co 2:5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power.

From Commentary

Faith involves 'progress' (Phil. 1:25); it is not something static, captured once and for all, but involves striving (Phil. 1:27: 'with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel…') and it increases (2 Cor. 10:15) and it is an energy at work in believers (1 Thess. 2:13). Since faith is not a static possession, Paul urges that faith be established [1]

Commentary on Heb 11:1

This faith operates quite simply. God speaks and we hear His Word. We trust His Word and act on it no matter what the circumstances are or what the consequences may be. The circumstances may be impossible, and the consequences frightening and unknown; but we obey God's Word just the same and believe Him to do what is right and what is best. [2]

Essential for Paul's understanding of faith is the conviction that God assigns to each the measure of faith he (God) wishes Rom. 12:3, 6; 1 Cor. 12:9). Yet no matter what that measure of faith is, the obedience of faith is expected from all (Rom. 1:5; 16:16). [3]

Yet the two are distinguished in this respect, that faith includes in it assent, which is an act of the will in addition to the act of the understanding. Assent to the truth is of the essence of faith, and the ultimate ground on which our assent to any revealed truth rests is the veracity of God. [4]

Hudson Taylor missionary to China

Said, "The real secret of an unsatisfied life lies too often in an unsurrendered will." Halfhearted obedience satisfies neither us, nor God.

The meetings have outgrown four venues, including a local convention center that seats roughly 7,000. Now they meet under an air-conditioned tent that can accommodate 10,000 on the grounds of the local airport. Organizers estimate that more than 140,000 people from at least 40 nations have attended meetings here.

Rick Joyner "The Lord is the same today as He was then. His name is not "I was," or "I will be," but "I AM"

He also said

"I have repeatedly asked large groups of Christians at conferences how many came to the Lord through revivals, crusades, evangelistic campaigns, or Christian television. Combined, it is almost always less than 5 percent of the people, and often it is as little as 2 percent. When I ask how many came to the Lord through the witness of a friend or relative, the other 95 percent or more respond. An encouraged church is the most powerful evangelistic force in the world".

Prov. 2:5-6Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;

don't try to figure out everything on your own.

Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.

The Two Events That Amazed Jesus

Centurion Soldier

Mt 8:5-10 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." Mt 8:10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

Mk 6:4 Jesus said to them, "Only in their own towns, among their relatives and in their own homes are prophets without honor."

Mk 6:5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

Mk 6:6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.

If you read both of these events one thing stands out in both of them. People's concept of who they perceived Jesus to be. How they answered that question determined their results.

How you perceive, is proportion to how you will receive.

End with this
