Yahweh is Building a People, Not a Church Building

Matthew 5:22-24 (MSG)

"You're familiar with the command to the ancients, 'Do not murder.' I'm telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother 'idiot!' and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell 'stupid!' at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill.

"This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God."

Two things came to mind when the Holy Spirit led me to this scripture:

No. 1

I usually hear church leaders say to go back and work things out with your brother or sister before taking communion at church.

That's cool.

But, Jesus also said to work out things with your brother or sister before you come up to make an offering.

He then emphasized that if you do not do this, do not bring God any money!

I think church leaders don't say this, because they are more interested in getting cash to build church structures.

Yahweh is interested in building a people called by His name.

We are His temple. (2 Corinthians 6:16)

No. 2

You would probably agree that there are people at work, in grocery stores, driving on the road whom we do not know but could be our brother or sister in Christ.

If this is true, then it behooves us not to call anyone an idiot or stupid.

Otherwise, we've murdered.

I mean, think about it.

Doesn't the world do this?

Didn't you do this when you were dead in your sins?

But, now you are alive in Christ!

Do not follow the world.

Follow Him!

One thing to be sure of in that passage in Matthew - "without cause" is in the original. It's an important distinction because there are some cases were we are justified to be angry with someone. After all, Jesus was angry with folks a couple of times. And no, you've not murdered, but you've fostered the spirit that leads to murder. The message from Jesus being that the teachings of the Pharisees were in error. You don't have to physically commit sin to have sin in you and you don't have to commit murder. Just having anger, which is the spirit that leads to murder, can be enough to condemn you before God.
